ApconiX Welcomes Charlotte Warrender

Charlotte Warrender | ApconiX

ApconiX is delighted to welcome Charlotte Warrender who joins us as Facility Manager and will be working with Dr Michael Morton.

Career

Charlotte left school straight after her GCSEs’ and joined Thor Specialities as a microbiology Laboratory Technician.  She joined AstraZeneca, again as a scientist, initially, working on a wide range of histopathology techniques in a pathology laboratory.  Studying part-time, Charlotte gained a BTEC at Stockport College and a HNC in Applied Biological Science at Manchester Metropolitan University and a BSc in Biomedical Science at the same University.

Charlotte moved into a Facility Manager’s role whilst still working as a bench top scientist.  The role involved scheduling programmes of work with various departments, attending project meetings and ensuring capacity was available when needed.  Charlotte also managed the laboratory instrumentation and stock.

Leaving AstraZeneca to start a family, Charlotte was made redundant following AstraZeneca’s decision to move down to Cambridge but worked at AstraZeneca in Macclesfield in the QC laboratories for a year, subcontracted through VWR International, part of Avantor.

Joining Gentronix as a Laboratory Technician before moving into a scientist role as a bench top scientist carrying out genetic toxicology testing, Charlotte became a Facility Manager once more.  This role involved keeping the equipment and facility to a high standard to follow GLP compliance, looking after health and safety and ordering equipment.

Working at ApconiX

Charlotte wanted experience of a broader workload and after a conversation with Mike was keen to join.

Dr Michael Morton, Director and Co-founder commented, “As our ion channel laboratory gets busier and busier, our scientists need to dedicate their time to science.  It is brilliant to have Charlotte join us, taking on the task of running the laboratory.”

Interests Outside Work

Charlotte loves to spend time with her family, being by the coast and in the sea is their happy place. She also enjoys walking their new dog, Inca is 4 months old and a very cute poodle border terrier cross.  Charlotte is a passionate horse rider from a very early age.  Although she no longer owns a horse, Charlotte rides every other week at a local stable.
