ApconiX Welcomes Valériane Levelut

Valeriane Levelut

ApconiX is delighted to welcome Valériane Levelut as a Medical Devices Expert in the Toxicology and DMPK Consultancy team. She will be working as an associate with Dr Richard Knight, co-director and founder of ApconiX, and Dr Simon Craige, Toxicologist and Director of EgDe Toxicology Consulting.

Academic Career

Valériane grew up near Paris, France. She studied pharmacy at the University Paris Descartes and chose to specialise in toxicology with a Masters in Toxicology, Risk Assessment and Vigilances. She was then offered a job as a Safety Assessor for l’Occitane Group, a cosmetic company based in the south of France.

Valériane joined a small CRO, Nexialist, specialised in medical devices as a Regulatory Affairs Toxicologist Consultant. New to the world of medical devices, she learned about biocompatibility, toxicology assessments and regulatory strategies on the job. After a couple years focusing on the regulatory aspect, she missed the toxicology aspect of her career and decided to join Eurofins as a Safety Assessor. The role involved evaluation of both cosmetic products and medical devices. Having the most expertise in the latter, Valériane implemented medical devices evaluation from scratch in her team.

In 2020 she was offered an interesting opportunity at NAMSA (North American Science Associates), a medical device CRO, as a toxicologist. There she worked on many different products and projects regarding toxicological risk assessments, biological evaluation and biocompatibility. Her role allowed her to take part in several conferences, including the Society Of Toxicology (SOT), either giving talks or presenting posters. She also organised internal and external training for clients, which she was very enthusiastic about, and she passed her DABT (Diplomate American Board of Toxicology) exam in 2022, earning her a promotion to Senior Toxicologist.

Working at ApconiX

Valériane will be working with ApconiX as part of EgDe Toxicology Consulting and bring her expertise in toxicology to new and existing clients. She is looking forward to continuing her career with more autonomy as a consultant. She commented “I have the knowledge of pharmaceutical toxicology, I know for instance the ICH guidelines from my studies, and I will now get the opportunity for further practical professional application and experience in this field.”

Richard commented: “ApconiX continues to attract experienced toxicologists from a variety of backgrounds and areas of expertise. With her knowledge of medical device safety, Valériane will be a valuable addition to our toxicology consulting team and we all look forward to working with her.”

Interests outside of work

Mum of a young boy, Valériane is often busy finding activities to entertain the family. She likes taking Simba, her Australian Shepherd dog, for long walks in the forest nearby. She also takes time for herself going to the gym, and hopes going back to dancing, a sport she used to practise often but hasn’t had much time for recently.
