ApconiX is Delighted to Welcome Henry Bushell

Henry Bushell

ApconiX is delighted to welcome Henry Bushell who joins the Business Development team and is working with Dr Laurence Bishop.  Henry has a keen interest in economics and decided to acquire some business experience, joining ApconiX straight from sixth form college.

Taking the Next Steps After Sixth Form

Henry has a keen interest in economics and was hoping to study economics at the University of Leeds.  The course particularly interested him and despite very impressive predicted (and realised this summer) academic results, the University did not offer Henry a place.

The pandemic had caused significant disruption to university intakes this academic year in the UK, with many students deferring from last year and many universities unable to offer as many places as previously.

Henry, considering his options, decided to take some time out of education, hoping to gain some experience of working in a business environment.

Laurence sent the Business Development Assistant job description to local sixth form colleges (The role was also advertised widely because although a local candidate was appealing the pandemic has shown us all that remote working does work).  Performing extremely well at interview, Henry felt like a perfect fit!

Working at ApconiX

Henry commented, “I always hope to work in a socially valuable company. The fact that ApconiX supports pharmaceutical and biotech companies in developing effective and safe drugs is very appealing to me. Working in business development gives me a good understanding how a business functions and what must be done to be successful, which feeds into my interest in economics.”

Already playing an active role within business development, Henry is writing quotes, answering business emails, and helping Laurence with the ever-increasing workload of a growing company.

Laurence added, “We had some great candidates for the Business Development Assistant role we advertised but Henry stood out as the ideal candidate, and he has settled into the role extremely well. Henry joined us at our recent Queen’s Award for Enterprise presentation, and it was great to see him meeting his new colleagues face to face and taking a genuine interest in the diverse work we do.”

Interests Outside Work

In his spare time Henry plays the guitar and bought a guitar to add to his collection with his first months’ salary.  Henry enjoys kickboxing, skiing and football and supports Leeds United!
