ApconiX is delighted to welcome Peter Cotton who joins our group of toxicology specialists.

Peter is a highly renowned clinical pathologist and haematologist with over 30 years of experience in big pharma.  Having managed the clinical pathology laboratory at AstraZeneca for many years, Peter has an international reputation for his knowledge of haematology and clinical pathology.

Peter joined AstraZeneca (previously ICI Zeneca) as Head of Haematology, then became Deputy Clinical Pathologist and Haematology Specialist.  Peter has spent the last sixteen years as a Clinical Pathology Laboratory Manager at AstraZeneca.   He uses his specialist knowledge of toxicological clinical pathology to interpret data in pre-clinical studies.

Peter commented, “Working for ApconiX gives me the opportunity to follow my passion in helping in the safety of medicines and assisting these products to the market to improve people’s lives”.

Until recently Peter was the Chairperson of the Association for Comparative Clinical Pathology and Associate editor of the Journal for Comparative Clinical Pathology.

Peter is a graduate of Salford University and worked for the NHS before joining ICI Zeneca.

Peter is a lecturer on the MSc Toxicology courses at the University of Birmingham and the University of Surrey and recently presented on clinical pathology at the Practical Application of Toxicology in Drug Development Course, joining Ruth Roberts who presented an Overview of Drug Discovery and Development at the same course.

Dr Richard Knight, Director and Co-founder of ApconiX has known Peter for over 25 years.  Richard added, “We are delighted to have someone with Peter’s huge experience join the ApconiX team.  His reputation and expertise in haematology and clinical pathology will be a real asset to many of the projects we support.”
