Phumzile Sikakana talks about the final part of her Triple Half Marathon Challenge.

“I took to the streets of south Manchester on Sunday the 13th of October to complete my final half marathon, making it 3 races in 6 weeks.  Honestly, I had let my training slip since the start of the challenge, so I only managed to drag my very tired legs over the finish line in a time of 1:52:44 and even that was hard work!  But there were thousands of other runners all encouraging each other along the way which created a great atmosphere despite the rain.  It was lovely to be greeted by my friends at the finish to celebrate my achievement.

This marks the end of my fundraising journey on the road, for this year at least!  But ApconiX will still be hosting a few more fundraisers in the lead up to Christmas.  The next being our “Guess How Many Sweets are in the Jar” competition on the 30th-31st of October.  We have a big jar full of Lindt Lindor chocolates to give away to the person who manages to guess correctly.  We will also be selling wintertime treats at our Bonfire night bake sale on the 5th of November.  So come down to the Radnor Atrium on those lunchtimes to get involved!

Finally, I’d like to say thanks for all the well wishes, support and donations over this journey from my friends, family, running buddies at Alderley Park and of course everyone at ApconiX.  We are on track to smash our £2000 fundraising target by the end of the year.  When we decided to choose Macmillan as our charity of the Year for 2019, we hoped we could make a meaningful contribution and have an impact on the amazing work they do.  I think we have already done that thanks to everyone sponsoring me!  It really means a lot to us.”
