ApconiX Welcomes Dr Andrew Fleetwood

Andrew Fleetwood

ApconiX is delighted to welcome Dr Andrew Fleetwood who joins the Toxicology and DMPK Consultancy Team as a Toxicology specialist and will be working with Dr Richard Knight, Director and co-founder of ApconiX.

Academic Career

Andrew Fleetwood began his career as a practising veterinary surgeon, first working in a practice with livestock and competition horses, and later working for the UK government on clinical pathology and then public safety policy. He was a Senior Veterinary Officer, where he became a UK representative at the DG SANCO policy group in Brussels (now DG SANTE). Andrew then joined Pfizer as European Head of Non-Clinical Regulatory Strategy and Compliance, responsible for the preparation of the nonclinical file for regulatory applications (clinical trials and Marketing Applications), responses to regulatory questions, preparation of product labelling, and more. He also represented Pfizer at the EFPIA Preclinical Development Group (PDEG); co-chaired the Impurities Council overseeing all specification setting and impurity qualification at Pfizer and was responsible for nonclinical training for safety groups.

Andrew now serves as Managing Director of EKPC Limited, his own regulatory toxicology consultancy, while continuing to contribute to the veterinary profession as Vice Chair of the Ethics and Welfare Committee at the Royal Veterinary College, overseeing animal use across its London and Hertfordshire campuses.

Working at ApconiX

Andrew is an active member of Eurotox, where he met with Dr Richard Knight, director and co-founder of ApconiX. He has been working as an associate for over a year. Andrew’s consultancy work is focused on non-clinical regulatory science in late phase medicine development; authorisation and post-authorisation work. He also specialises in impurities and leachables and extractables management, helping plan the qualification strategy, the L&E strategy, and risk assessing the extractable and leachable profiles generated on manufacturing equipment and primary packaging.

Dr Richard Knight commented “We are delighted to have Andrew join the ApconiX toxicology group.  Andrew brings tremendous experience in late stage regulatory toxicology and risk assessment, and is already having an impact helping clients navigate the complex regulatory landscape in late development.”

Interests outside of work

Another way Andrew kept up with his veterinary work was via his sheep farm, which he only recently retired from. He joked that he has now a “normal house” in a small village and is involved with the local parish church which is the social hub of the community. Andrew is also a vintage car enthusiast, being the proud owner of a 1926 Morris convertible, and having a garage full of mechanical engineering equipment. Finally he is a grandparent, which brings diverse and sometimes challenging activities!
