Minister for Exports Congratulates ApconiX
Minister for Exports, Mike Freer congratulated ApconiX for being honoured with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. The three Directors and Co-founders, Dr Richard Knight, Dr Michael Morton and Professor Ruth Roberts are all delighted that their hard work and determination and that of the whole team at ApconiX has been recognised for the company’s excellence in International Trade.
Exporting is essential for the growth of ApconiX as drug research and development is a truly global endeavour. In 2021, international trade accounted for around 70% of turnover. ApconiX has a unique business model that has proved to be an attractive choice for clients all over the world who need access to experienced and credible drug safety scientists. This is true of companies of any size in any location.
Richard commented, “We have been grateful over the years for funding and support from the Department of International Trade. In particular Sara Pomfret, International Trade Adviser , a member of the North West International Trade Team, has frequently and patiently guided us during our export journey. Becoming an Export Champion for the Northern Powerhouse region seemed an excellent opportunity to reciprocate.”
The Export Champions Community is made up of over 1,700 individuals, who help the Department of International Trade to reach out to business, by sharing their exporting expertise with new and inexperienced exporters and promoting the
benefits of exporting. The Community consists of over 400 Export Champions and 1,300 Export Advocates.
An Export Champion is a named individual at a company. They provide the deep, high-quality engagement required for one-to-one informal advice to other businesses with close relationship management from leads in their regions. Export Champions often host, speak at and help organise export events; provide informal advice by sharing their exporting story with individual businesses offer business insights to help inform policy and feature in DIT campaigns and media opportunities – amplifying these through their own networks.
